MC34261 - Power Factor Controllers

Download the MC34261 datasheet PDF. This datasheet also covers the MC33261 variant, as both devices belong to the same power factor controllers family and are provided as variant models within a single manufacturer datasheet.

Description

Introduction Most electronic ballasts and switching power supplies use a bridge rectifier and a filter capacitor to derive raw dc voltage from the utility ac line.

This simple rectifying circuit draws power from the line when the instantaneous ac voltage exceeds the capacitor’s voltage.

These integrated circuits feature an internal startup timer, a one quadrant multiplier for near unity power factor, zero current detector to ensure critical conduction operation, high gain error amplifier, trimmed internal bandgap reference, current sensing comparator, and a totem pole output ideally suited for driving a power MOSFET. Also included are protective features consisting of input undervoltage lockout with hysteresis, cycle−by−cycle current limiting, and a latch for single pulse metering.
