The RS76 key alpha-numerickeyboardconsistsof a
main 60 key-OWERIY-plusarray with a 16 key
numeric and cursorcontrol side pad.The keyboard
layout is designedto conform to the requirements
of ECMA 23 and 8,54822and is supplied in sloped
form with two shot moulded charcoalgrey keycaps
with white lettering.The switches used in the key-
board are a mechanicaltype, of the same designas
the RSP.C.B.mounting keyboardswitches.Theyare
mounted on a double sided,through-holeplated
glassfibre P.C.B.c,ompletewithaluminiumsupport
and mounting frame. This keyboardmay be fitted
into RSkeyboardcase(508-273)whichhasa suitable
cut-out.
The keyboard circuit layout is designed to allow
access to the switch matrix, via two 16 pin DIL
sockets, for direct memory mapping into a
computer or microprocessorsystem. Alternatively
by the addition of the 88 key encoderi.c.(309-509)
and four other LSTTLi.c.'sa very powerful encoded
keyboardmay be built,offeringthe following extra
features: alternateaction caps lock,side pad shift
inhibit, repeatfunction, encodedcursorcontrolsin
the side pad and user selectableodd or even parity
and output polarity.
The complete encoded keyboardgeneratesthe full
ASCII characterset in 8 bit data code (+ 1 parity bit
operating on the first seven bits) making it idealfor
use in modernsmallsystemdesigns.
The keyboard P.C.B.is suppliedcompletewith two
16 pin DILsocketsfor the matrixoutputs,a 40 pin DIL
socketfor the encoderi.c.and a 16pin DILsocketfor
the coded outputs and power supply inputs.Inter
connectionmay be made usingeither16pin speed-
bloc DIL connectorsor 16 pin DIL modules and
ribboncable.
