Following a review of the performance characteristics of the strain gage and selection criteria, several laboratory projects are conducted in which strain gages are bonded, electrical connections pleted, environmental protection applied and installation integrity verified. The strain data are then collected with measuring instrumentation and pared to calculated theoretical values. In a more advanced laboratory projects, a basic weighing scale is constructed and calibrated, and a three-element strain gage rosette is used to measure strains and calculate the pressure in a thin-walled vessel. In the course of these laboratory projects, all attendees have an opportunity to use three popular adhesive systems.
