Character display on the dot matrix character type LCD can be controlled in combination with a 4-bit/8-bit microcontroller. This LSI consists of 16-dot COMMON driver, 40-dot SEGMENT driver, display data RAM, character generator RAM, character generator ROM and control circuit. The MSM6222B-xx is the equivalent of Hitachi's HD44780. There is, however, a slight difference between the two devices as described in the table on the last page.
