To operate the appliance, plug the toaster into the mains socket and slide the switch downwards. Please note: The switch will only stay in the down position if the appliance is connected to the mains! Important
- Attention: The toaster gets hot during use. Avoid touching the metal parts.
- If a slice of bread bees trapped inside the toaster:
- remove the plug from the mains socket;
- then remove the trapped slice carefully from the toaster. Take care not to damage the heating elements whilst removing the bread. Never use a metal object for this purpose.
- Bread may burn. Therefore, toasters must not be used near or below curtains or other bustible material. They must be watched.
- Do not place any objects or heat-up buns directly on top of the toaster as this could lead to damage.
- When cleaning the toaster:
- First remove the plug from the mains socket.
- Never immerse the toaster in water. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
- If the mains cord of this appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips or their service representative, as special tools and/or parts are required. Operation (see illustrations): Your toaster is equipped with a O position on the browning selector. When in this position, the toast lever will not engage and will pop up. We remend you leave your browning selector in the O position when not in use. This will ensure a measure of safety by preventing accidental turning on of the toaster (e.g. by young children).
- (Type HD 4815:) Insert one or two slices of bread (fig. 1a).
- (Type HD 4845:) Insert one to four slices (or two large slices) of bread. For optimum browning, always place the bread as close as possible to the centre of the slots (fig. 1b).
- Before switching on, select the degree of browning (fig. 2).
- Select a lower position (i.e. 1 or 2) for light browning, for toasting only one slice or for dry bread.
- For medium browning set the browning selector to position 3-5.
