A Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) makes system integration simple. The embedded nonvolatile elements TM incorporate Simtek’s Quantum Trap technology producing the world’s most reliable nonvolatile memory. The SRAM provides unlimited read and write cycles, while independent, nonvolatile data resides in TM the highly reliable Quantum Trap cell. Data transfers from the SRAM to the nonvolatile elements (the STORE operation) takes place automatically at power down. On power up, data is restored to the SRAM (the RECALL operation) from the nonvolatile memory. Both the STORE and RECALL operations are also available under software control. The Real-Time Clock function provides an accurate clock with leap year tracking and a programmable, high accuracy oscillator. The Alarm function is programmable for one-time alarms or periodic seconds, minutes, hours, or days. There is also a programmable Watchdog Timer for process control.
